The Lord will Provide

At the beginning of the Book of Mormon Nephi tells his father "I know that the Lord giveth no commandments unto the children of men, save he shall prepare a way for them that they may accomplish the thing which he commandeth them."(1 Nephi 3:7) When the Lord commands his children to act he will prepare a way for them to do what he has commanded. The Book of Mormon has several examples of this principle. A few of the many examples in the Book of Mormon include, when Nephi went to retrieve the brass plates and found Laban drunk in the streets. (See:1 Nephi 4) Or when Alma went to Ammonihah and found Amulek there waiting to care for him and to serve as his missionary companion. (See: Alma 8) Then when Ammon went to do missionary work among the Lamanites he was provided an opportunity to serve the King, (See: Alma 17) as well as a convert prepared all ready to accept his message and help him. (See: Alma 19) As we go about our work trying to accomplish what we believe the Lord would have us do he will prepare a way for us that we might accomplish what he needs us to do.

Gordon B. Hinckley once shared this statement in general conference:

“I believe I am always divinely guided.
I believe I will always take the right road.
I believe God will always make a way where there is no way.”

Then, Elder Hinckley then testified, "I too believe that God will always make a way where there is no way. I believe that if we will walk in obedience to the commandments of God, if we will follow the counsel of the priesthood, he will open a way even where there appears to be no way." ("If Ye Be Willing and Obedient"

I have seen this in action in my own life. The year before I left on my mission I won a free car in a contest. I then received a scholarship to go to school that covered all of my tuition and grants to cover the cost of living. I also easily found a job during this period. Because of this I was able to save money for my mission. Then when the time came I was able to sell that car which covered the majority of my mission.

I know that as we exercise faith in obeying God's commands we will be blessed with the capability and the opportunity to follow the Lord's commandments. The Lord will help us in our callings, and in following all of his commandments if we choose to obey.
